Ready, Set, Hunt: Date and registration announced for 2009 Downtown Event
Following the success of the 2008 scavenger hunt, Scene in Winston-Salem is excited to announce the second downtown Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 2:00pm-6:00pm. Mayor Allen Joines officially set off the inaugural Scene in Winston-Salem Scavenger Hunt, held on June 28th, 2008 which drew a crowd of over 100 hunters who helped raised nearly $2,500 for the Meade Wills Fund which grants money to assist restaurants, clubs and galleries wishing to operate downtown. This year's proceeds will benefit the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership Foundation who also aligns with the event's goal to educate participants about Winston-Salem's history, community, and local arts scene. "I had a great time last year and I learned an awful lot" Justin Thiel, President of the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership. "It was challenging, but an incredible amount of fun, and best of all, it supports a great cause!"
Teams of two solve clues that lead them to downtown Winston-Salem destinations where racers perform tasks, have their "passport" stamped and take pictures at downtown businesses and landmarks. Various bonus points and prizes are earned along the way including prize money, as much as $100, given to the top three fastest teams to complete the hunt. In addition, awards such as best team costume, and best team name are voted on and recognized at the finish line which doubles as an after-party with food, beverages following the race. "Not only is Scene in Winston-Salem a fun-filled afternoon of entertainment with your friends, it's also a great opportunity to learn about the great places in and around our downtown" Susan Morris, Event Founder. "We look forward to not only promoting the town that we live in but to encourage education of the history of the city as well as awareness of all the great things that Winston-Salem has to offer." This year's Scavenger Hunt falls on Earth Day relevant because the eco-friendly event is 100% pedestrian and participants are encouraged to carpool to save gas money, and help the environment.
Registration for the hunt opens on-line Tuesday, March 3rd at www.sceneinwinston-salem.com and the $20 fee includes a recycled tote bag filled with goodies from sponsors as well as tickets to the after-party with free food and drinks at Foothills Brewery. Families, businesses, students, and everyone, young and old is invited to put your team together now and join us for this memorable experience! This is a great event for a great cause. We hope that you join us for the Scene in Winston-Salem Scavenger Hunt 2009.
